Victoria Rapanan, a native New Yorker and Filipino-American, is an International Voice Teacher and Vocal Technician. She has taught voice for 34 years, specializing in the Old Italian School of Singing, with the Swedish influence, as well as cross-training into Contemporary Commercial Music. In addition, she was an Adjunct Professor of Voice at Diablo Valley College for 11 years and taught for Mt. Diablo Adult Education for 21 years. Ms. Rapanan was also an annual guest instructor in Bangkok and Manila for 12 years, and was on the faculty of the International Lyric Academy in Italy.
Ms. Rapanan’s lifelong pursuit of vocal technique has spanned from receiving her Bachelor of Arts degree in Music (California State University), graduate study in Italy and New York, to training with some of the finest teachers and coaches in the world. She trained and apprenticed under the renowned vocal pedagogue, Maestro David Jones, and continued perfecting her technique with Dr. Mark Goodrich and Dr. Julia Nielsen. A true crossover artist and master of style, she has studied popular contemporary technique and styles with the renowned Lisa Popeil (Voiceworks training);Tom Burke; “Coach to the Stars”, Ron Browning; John Henny; Levels I, II and III of Somatic Voicework™, the LoVetri method at the Contemporary Commercial Music Vocal Pedagogy Institute at Shenandoah University; and Levels 1 and 2 of Estill Voice International. Having studied voice for 46 years, Ms. Rapanan is deeply rooted in the traditional and proper technique of the Old Italian School of Singing, with the Swedish influence, as well as cross-training into “edgy”, contemporary commercial styles. Many of her students have pursued professional careers in opera, musical theater, recording, teaching voice, and choral conducting, besides winning awards in competitions and performing internationally.
A Mezzo-soprano Zwischenfach, Victoria Rapanan has also been an active performer for most of her life. Her extensive range and artistry encompass music from Opera (including coloratura repertoire) to Pop. She has performed principal roles with many opera and musical theater companies, has also been a featured soloist in oratorios and classical concerts throughout California, Italy, Spain, Bangkok and Manila, and has been a lead vocalist in Pop, Classic Rock, Jazz and R&B shows.
Ms. Rapanan served as president and vice president of the National Association of Teachers of Singing, San Francisco Bay Area Chapter from 2006-2016.
